Embothrium

Family

Proteaceae

A genus of a few species in S. America, E. Australia and New Guinea. In Sleumer’s interpretation, all these, with the sole exception of E. coccineum (the species described here), are referred to the genus Oreocallis. The group of Proteaceae to which Embothrium belongs is also represented in gardens by Telopea truncata, which is easily distinguished by its compact inflorescence surrounded by an involucre of coloured bracts; and by a few species of Lomatia. in which the flowers are white or cream-coloured.
