A genus of a single species in the south-eastern USA, not closely related to any other American member of the rose family. Flowers without petals. Carpels two to four, enclosed within the calyx-tube, each developing into a drupe-like achene. It was named by Asa Gray after its discoverer, the Rev. R. D. Nevius.
