Osmaronia

Family

Rosaceae

A genus of one species in western N. America, allied to Prunus but differing in having up to five free pistils in each flower (one in Prunus).

The name Nuttallia, by which this genus was long known, is invalid, having been used for other genera before it was applied to the present species. The name Osmaronia, which has supplanted it, is itself invalid, since (as discovered quite recently) there is an earlier name for this genus – Oemleria. But, to avoid further confusion, the name Osmaronia has been proposed for conservation.
