Gramineae
Two species of bamboos, natives of Eastern Asia, with zigzagged stems flattened between the joints and nearly solid, stem sheaths without bristles. The genus is named after K. Shibata, a Japanese botanist. The following is the only species in cultivation.
Some names used by Bean have now been superseded and are no longer familiar.
