Emmenopterys

Family

Rubiaceae

A genus of two species, natives of the temperate forests of China, Siam, and Burma. It is allied to Luculia.

From the Supplement (Vol. V)

The tree in the Villa Taranto gardens on Lake Maggiore now flowers fairly regularly. Planted in 1937, it is many-stemmed and about 60 ft high. Probably deficient summer heat is the cause of its not flowering in Britain.

The examples at Caerhays, Cornwall, now measure 59 × 3[3/4] ft and 56 × 3[1/2] ft (1984).
