Philesiaceae
A genus of a single species, native mainly of Chile, named by Ruiz and Pavon in honour of the Empress Josephine of France, first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, whose maiden name was de la Pagerie. It is a member of a very distinct family of monocotyledons to which also belong Luzuriaga and Philesia, both treated in this work. The family Philesiaceae is confined to the southern hemisphere.
Some names used by Bean have now been superseded and are no longer familiar.
