Satureia

Family

Labiatae

A genus of about thirty annual and perennial herbs, together with a few dwarf shrubs, natives of the warmer parts of the world, all aromatic. Flowers whorled or in lax cymes. Calyx tubular or campanulate, with five equal teeth. Corolla with a straight tube, two-lipped, the lower lip with three rounded lobes. Stamens four, shorter than the upper lip, curved. In Hyssopus, and usually in Thymus, the stamens are straight, exserted and spreading. Satureia is sometimes stated to be a large genus; it becomes so if Micromeria, Calamintha and some other related genera (none treated here) are included in it, as they are by some botanists.
