Verbena

Family

Verbenaceae

The genus Verbena is best known in gardens by its ornamental annuals and herbaceous perennials. There is however a large group of shrubs in this genus, mostly dwarf and often with much reduced leaves, all confined to S. America (the genus itself is largely confined to the New World). The species described below is the best known of these in gardens, but others, mostly new to science, were introduced by Comber from Argentina in 1925-7, notably V. cedroides Sandwith, closely allied to V. tridens, and V. scabrido-glandulosa Turrill (Bot. Mag., n.s., t. 98).
