Parrotiopsis

Family

Hamamelidaceae

A genus of a single species allied to Parrotia and included in it in previous editions of this work. Although allied to that genus, it differs in its flowers, which have up to twenty-four stamens with upright filaments and oval anthers; in Parrotia the stamens are less numerous, the filaments pendulous, and the anthers linear. A less essential, but more obvious, difference is that the involucral bracts in Parrotiopsis are white and conspicuous. It is also allied to Fothergilla and the species often appears in old works of Himalayan botany under the name Fothergilla involucrata; but in Fothergilla involucral bracts are lacking.
